Registration for this event is now closed.

This is an advanced program for Master Gardeners to attain specialization in supporting and expanding educational programs.

The First Detector program, established by NPDN, emphasizes early detection of invasive and exotic pathogens and pests using basic observation and surveying skills.

Pre-registration is required. Registration closes at noon on Wednesday, June 10, 2026!

Certification Requirements

To certify as an Advanced Master Gardener – First Detector, participants must:

  • Attend training - both days are required
  • Volunteer 20 additional hours beyond current obligations
  • Serve as a local resource for a year
  • Educate others
  • Submit the required report

Upon completion, a certificate and lapel pin are awarded.

Available Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

  • 8 CEUs - Texas AgriLife Master Gardeners; credits through Volunteer Management System (VMS)

Cancellations and Refunds

Cancellations received no later than Monday, June 1, 2026  will be issued a full refund.

If a cancellation or refund becomes necessary, please submit a Cancellation or Refund Request. Refunds typically take 7–10 business days to process.
