Join us in College Station, Texas, on September 16 for a hands-on Prescribed Fire Field Day designed for landowners, fire practitioners, and local officials.
This one-day event will provide participants with practical, in-field experience and instruction on planning and implementing prescribed burns in Central Texas.
Attendees will take part in an active prescribed burn, weather permitting, and gain insight into real-time decision-making, fire behavior, and crew coordination.

During the field day, participants will learn:
- Fire ecology principles relevant to Texas landscapes
- Texas prescribed burn laws and liability considerations
- Key components of an effective burn plan
- How to assess weather conditions, fuel characteristics, and fire behavior in the field
- Proper equipment use and crew organization during a burn
- Ignition techniques and holding strategies
- Safety protocols and risk management on prescribed fires
- Post-burn evaluation and next steps for land management
This field-focused event emphasizes applied learning and gives participants the opportunity to engage directly with experienced fire practitioners in an operational setting.
