About the Short Course

The Texas Pecan Short Course is a comprehensive learning immersion aimed at preparing landowners to plan, develop, and implement a commercial pecan orchard business.

Participants do not need to know anything about pecan trees to be a part of this course, but should expect to finish the course with an understanding of:

• Basic tree biology and physiology,
• Site and resource evaluation,
• Seasonal tree care and protection,
• The pecan market and budget preparation,
• Ariety selection, and
• Strategies for pest and disease management.

Portions of the course include hands-on demonstrations of orchard equipment, tree planting, pruning, etc. at the Texas A&M University pecan orchard.
