No prior experience is required.

The course covers foundational fire science, safety, and operations, making it suitable for beginners as well as those with field experience looking to expand their knowledge.

Yes, if weather conditions and permitting allow.

The school includes hands-on prescribed burns to demonstrate ignition methods, fire behavior, and smoke management techniques under real conditions.

Participants should bring flame-resistant clothing (Nomex or equivalent), leather boots, gloves, eye protection, a hard hat, and any personal field gear they prefer.

Some equipment may be available for loan or use during the class.

The classroom and field portions will be held at the Gatesville Civic Center and the burns will take place at a local ranch.

Specific locations and travel details will be provided to registered attendees before the course begins.

Lunch and refreshments are typically provided each day.

Lodging is not included, but nearby hotel information will be provided in the confirmation materials.

Yes. Participants who complete all classroom and field components will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service documenting 24 hours of prescribed fire training.

If weather conditions are unsuitable for prescribed burning, additional classroom and demonstration activities will be substituted to meet curriculum requirements. Or the school will be rescheduled to allow for burning.

Cancellations and Refunds

Cancellations received no later than Wednesday, June 1, 2026 will be issued a full refund.

If a cancellation or refund becomes necessary, please submit a Cancellation or Refund Request. Refunds typically take 7–10 business days to process.
